Crowns & Flames

Mountainous landscapes crown the horizon like flames abstracted into jagged peaks. An intoxicated troubadour dazzles in your eyes while tearing out your heart. The representations of heartache and sorrow within popular music have always fascinated me. Why does sad music sound best in rhinestones? Why does the night’s sky always look its most beautiful when you miss someone? Embracing the cliché and the paradoxical, I make these paintings as if I were writing a sad song, with a tear in my beer and rhinestones on my sleeves.
